ALL ARCHITECTS AND FIRMS IN GOOD STANDING WITH THE ARCHITECTS
REGISTRATION COUNCIL (ARC) TO PARTICIPATE IN GHANA HOUSE DESIGN
COMPETITION
At a meeting held on 12th November 2025 between the leadership of The Architecture Alliance
(TAA), the Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA), the Architects Registration Council (ARC), and
officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was agreed that all architects duly registered and
in good standing with the Architects Registration Council (ARC) shall be eligible to participate
in the Ghana House Design Competition. This decision reverses the earlier restriction that
limited participation to members of the Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA) in good standing.
The agreement marks a significant step toward inclusiveness and fairness in the selection
process, ensuring that every qualified architect has the opportunity to contribute their
expertise. All parties reaffirmed their commitment to upholding professional standards and
promoting transparency within the architectural profession.
The organizers, GIA, shall take the necessary steps to revise the initial call for Expressions of
Interest to reflect the agreed qualification criteria and amended timelines. The Architects
Registration Council (ARC) will, in due course, communicate the update to all registered
architects.
The collaborative spirit demonstrated at the meeting reflects a shared vision to advance
excellence in architecture and to ensure that national projects are executed with integrity,
professionalism, and respect for the law.
The Architecture Alliance (TAA) expresses its profound appreciation to the Honorable Minister
for Foreign Affairs for his warm reception and openness in engaging with the parties. His
willingness to address the issues raised by TAA is commendable and instrumental in fostering
a constructive dialogue that has led to a fair and inclusive resolution. The Minister’s leadership
and receptiveness underscore the government’s commitment to equity, professionalism, and
transparency in national projects.
The meeting was attended by Patience Ewurama Ocran (President of TAA), Charles Amissah
Koomson (Legal and Policy Lead for TAA), Vitus Gbang, Esq., (Legal advisor to TAA), Tony
Asare (President of GIA), Augustus Richardson (Vice President of GIA), Kofi Essel-Appiah
(Board Chairman of ARC) and three representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
